My brother got me a cheap Mahalo ukulele for my birthday, which I've taken and tried to get the best sound possible out of it. ---THINGS I FORGOT TO SAY--- When I got the uke, the action was high enough to affect the intonation, but not unplayable. After filing down the nut and the bridge a little bit, the intonation is improved and it plays rather well. I also found it necessary to tighten the friction tuners, one of which (A string) still feels a bit funky. The sound is OK, it's a bit "plunky," not as complex of a tone as you would get from a nicer instrument, but what do you expect? It only cost .
